We survived the first day of school. I am proud to report that JustaBXgirl said her first day was FANTASTIC. She liked her school, her teachers and the other littles in her class. Her only complaint was similar to mine…why was the day so short? She started school at 8:10a and was dismissed at 10:30A. We are both looking forward to her getting into the full day swing of things next week. Even though I must be honest, I will miss having her around the house with me all day.
I expected to be a mess today but I think other than it only being a half day I felt relatively at ease because we prepared for the day. We gathered favorite products and had back up options at our disposal. We went over home and public rules and I did my best to answer any and every question that JustaBXgirl had about school. She did, however, try to talk me into homeschooling prior to her first day.
I wanted to share some of our favorites that will be helping us get through this school year.
Bixbee – You saw our Bixbee lunch bag in a previous post. JustaBXgirl saw this unicorn backpack when I was on the site gathering information about the lunch bag to share with you and insisted that it would be the perfect first-day bag. She was kind of correct. She really looked adorable with it on her back. It also holds more than I expected. And it has a side pocket for her water bottle.
Burton – You might have seen JustaBXgirl’s Bohemia pattern Metalhead Burton backpack in some social media images lately. We both love this bag. It has an inside pocket to hold a laptop. We use the pocket for our iPads. It also has an insulated side pocket which fits her Contigo water bottle with room! This bag is still a bit big for JustaBXgirl to carry every day but it is perfect for mama to lug all of JustaBXgirl’s things around in, especially when we decide to head out of town for a weekend.
I was happy that JustaBXgirl would be wearing a uniform. It meant that we could avoid the potential morning meltdowns over not being able to wear what she wants. Remember those? I also was a bit scared because I have heard horror stories over the costs of uniforms. Her school was flexible on the uniforms. They simply have to wear gray bottoms and white tops.
Children’s Place to the rescue. I caught a sale where I was able to purchase each shirt for $3.98. Yup, less than $4 a shirt. And if that didn’t feel like a big enough win enter Cookies for the bottoms. I got JustaBXgirl’s bottoms for under $10 a pair.
Other School Supplies:
ZIPIT Pencil case – I had no idea that this was on JustaBXgirl’s radar until she got overly excited when she saw me packing it into her school supplies. I know this adorable little monster of a pencil case will be a hit among her classmates. It also can hold a lot of items.
Personalized Pencils – I already shared that her pencils from Oriental Trading all have her name on them in a previous post but this really made her happy. JustaBXgirl’s name is not one you find for sale on the personalized racks so when she can get something with her name on it she smiles. And so do I!
Ice Packs – Rubermaid and Zip & Zoe to the rescue. These will work great in JustaBXgirl’s lunch bags and at home for bumps and bruises.
So there you have it. A few of the things that helped us get through the first day of school. Now say a prayer for us that we will successfully make it through the first week.
