It’s A Party, It’s A Party, It’s An Online Party – Virtual Baby Shower Time

My goddaughter will be born in July.  Her family is having a baby shower this weekend but I won’t be there.  They live in North Carolina.  I’m saving my next visit for when JustaNCgirl is born. With that being said I realized that there were a lot of people that love and adore my JustaNCfamily  that wouldn’t be able to celebrate with them in North Carolina.

We are blessed to live in a time where distance doesn’t really matter.  Instead of moping about missing an important moment in my goddaughter’s welcoming I decided to throw them a virtual baby shower.  Yup, it’s a thing.  I Googled it and found that there were companies that would host a baby shower online for you.  After reading reviews and going through a bunch of websites I figured Facebook would be the best forum for this shindig.

Think about it.  Facebook is the place where all of your family and friends live.  And inviting one or a million of them only requires checking a box.  I’m lazy and I know a lot of other people are too.  We have the best intentions but sometimes get distracted when it comes to trying something new.  Having a party on Facebook is pretty much like knocking on a friend’s door with a party in a box.  They don’t have to do anything but check their notifications (which they’re already doing) to join in on the fun.

I throw virtual parties as an Usborne consultant and am aware that participation can be hit or miss.  Because of this I started adding content to JustaNCgirl’s baby shower a few weeks before it was scheduled to begin.  Just so people would know what to expect.  I “decorated” and reminded guests that gifts were optional.

We are now a few day into the shower and I think it is going well.  It will last a week so that JustaNCmom andJustaNCdad can include photos from the local shower they’re having this weekend.  We are currently playing games, sharing ideas and showing off gifts.

I can actually see this type of shower becoming popular.  It allows people to be involved when they might not normally be able to.  It also saves the expectant parents a lot of stress.  No need to worry about set up or clean up since the entire thing is online.

Have you ever attended a virtual baby shower?  Would you consider having one?  What is one thing you can’t imagine not having at a baby shower?
