Is Your Child Old Enough For Frozen On Broadway?

frozen on broadway, should I take my kids to frozen, petite seat, frozen on broadway
We were invited to attend the showing as press. As always all opinions are honest and my own.

Recently, I had the privilege of welcoming our new baby contributor, JustaNJmom, to the Justafamily by having a mom’s night out on Broadway. We were treated to attending a weeknight performance of Frozen on Broadway by our friends from Petite Seat. If you’re unfamiliar with Petite Seat then please let me be the one to introduce you to them.

Petite Seat is a parent’s must visit for all things theater and live entertainment in the NYC area. Their website and Instagram keep us in the know about what’s going on around New York City but they don’t stop there. Petite Seat shares details on shows so that you can choose which are best for your family.  They supply details on age recommendations, potential plot sensitivities, theater logistics, and more.

Since they’ve already done the work, I’m here just to share the message. If you’re thinking of treating your little to Frozen on Broadway here are a few things that you should know, according to Petite Seat:

  • FROZEN on Broadway is a full-length theatrical Broadway experience, lasting two and a half hours.  It is not recommended for ages 4 and under. This may be a long time to sit quietly for some kids. For those who might not be ready for this length of a show, think Disney on Ice.  MICKEY’S SEARCH PARTY will be in the area in November (and does include Frozen), and FROZEN ON ICE will be returning to the NY area this January. Both are great alternatives for the younger crowd.
  • For some children, this may be their first Broadway show. To help prepare them for this exciting and new experience, we recommend teaching the basics of theatre etiquette.  Try watching performance videos on YouTube, sitting quietly and applauding afterward to get them in the swing of it. While we all know the words to “Let It Go,” singing and talking are not permitted during the performance.
  • For kids who may need to take a break from the performance, or are getting antsy in their seats, there are live feed monitors located in each level’s lobby. This way they won’t miss a single moment should they need to leave their seats for a bit.

I know that us adults were quietly singing along because, well, it is FROZEN. There is a difference though in how low a 30-something quietly sings along and a little obsessed with the soundtrack sings along so use discretion. JustaBXgirl has been to many live shows in her lifetime but has yet to see a Broadway show. This is one of the shows I’m considering for her first.

I can share that as an adult I was blown away by the lighting and effects. The Disney magic was most definitely flowing through the theater. I did see children smaller that JustaBXgirl there and I think it was a mixed verdict. It was a late show (7p start) and you could see some of the littles in attendance were growing weary. However, there were others that were having the time of their lives.

As alway, you know your littles. You know how late is too late. You know how long is too long to ask them to sit. You know when they’re ready to graduate from live shows like a Disney on Ice to Broadway. If you want the chance to check it out without spending the money head on over to my Instagram. Thanks to our friends from Petite Seat and Disney we will be giving away a pair of tickets to see Frozen for a December show.
