I must confess, I’ve never paid much attention to Spider-Man. There have been a lot of Spider-Man movies and I probably hadn’t seen one since Tobey Maguire and Kirstin Dunst starred as Peter Parker and MJ! Something about those movies just didn’t excite me the way other superhero films have been able to do. Feeling this way, I must admit that I didn’t get too excited when we got the invite to Spider-Man Far From Home. If JustaBXgirl didn’t say that she really wanted to see the movie, I might have passed on the invite! Let me tell you something…I am happy that I didn’t pass on the invite!!!
Tom Holland is a GREAT Spidey. Why hasn’t anyone told me to watch his version before??? And Zendaya as MJ??? That is a casting that I didn’t know I needed. MJ’s character in this movie felt like a full person. I never got that before from pre-Zendaya movies or from the cartoons I watched growing up. The MJ character always felt a bit flat before. Now, I couldn’t get enough of her.
Honestly, I could go on and on about pretty much everyone in this cast. From Marissa Tomei to Jake Gyllenhaal, each actor brought their character to life in a way that made them become the role as I don’t think anyone has before.
And the action! At one point during the screening, JustaBXgirl leaned over to me and said, “Mommy, this is an ACTION movie.” The special effects were awesome. And most importantly, the movie held true to the current MCU. It shows a realistic take on how a sixteen-year-old would feel being left to fill the shoes of someone like Iron Man. I think that’s another of the amazing things about Spider-Man. As a sixteen-year-old, he is dealing with teenage issues. Does the girl like me? Is my guardian dating? Can I enjoy my school vacation in Europe and not be stressed by my after school job?
In a world where Superheroes usually come with lots of baggage Spider-Man, while having some baggage but more like a carry-on size rather than checked bag, is a breath of fresh air. It also makes it more comfortable to bring the littles to see because you know that it will be age appropriate. You don’t need me to tell you this because unlike me, you already knew how good this series was.
I want to share so many of my favorite parts but it wouldn’t be fair to spoil the aha moments for you. So please, come back here after you go see the movie and tell me some of your favorite parts. Oh, and of course don’t even think about leaving until the credits are over.
