We received complimentary admission to attend the tour. As always, all opinions are honest and my own.
JustaBXgirl loves visiting the AMNH. We go there a few times of year and she feels like she can lead her own tour of her favorite spots. She had however never been to The Met. She loves art so I knew it would interest her but it’s also a museum that I never thought of as completely kid friendly so I figured why rush it. Then I found out about the Lark & Fable tours thanks to Twitter. What better way to introduce a little to a museum than through an interactive tour based on a subject that she adores, Harry Potter!
What does The Met have to do with Harry Potter you ask? Absolutely nothing and absolutely everything! Technically there are no Harry Potter objects are the museum BUT when you take one of Lark & Fable’s tours you will clearly see the connections to certain exhibits and the story.
The tour is completely interactive and takes you all over the museum so you get to see many different exhibits and you are welcomed to stay in the musem once the tour is over.
If you know anything about us then you know we love themes. JustaBXgirl pulled out her Hermione Granger dress and her wand. I grabbed my Hogwarts t-shirt and my wand and we were ready to get on the Hogwarts Express (4 Train to 86th Street) and be schooled. And schooled we were. Evan was our tour guide (and ownder and founder of Fable and Lark). She is fantabulous and so knowledgeable. We learned facts about the Harry Potter world, the art contained in the museum and the Met itself.
I’m also a huge lover of random facts and t his tour gave me some new ones for my stockpile. There were only two other people on our tour so it was nice and small and we all got a lot of attention and time to ask and answer questions. One of my favorite things about this tour was that it worked for the whole group. The other two members of the group were a couple in probably their mid to late 20s. We all had such a great time together. The woman from the couple was also a huge Harry Potter fan and her and JustaBXgirl were bonding over the trivia questions they both were able to answer. The solitary male of the group wasn’t the biggest Harry Potter fan but still enjoyed the tour and really got involved with the interactive exercises. And my little Gryffindor was in all her glory figuring things out.
You can also book private tours and birthday parties. The tours run around two hours but might be a little shorter or a little longer based on the group. They have also launched a junior version that will run about an hour for those that are being introduced to the museum for the first time, have shorter attention spans or just don’t have as much time. You can check out the different types of tours offered here.
If I’m honest, I want to take each of these tours because I love combining knowledge and activities. I love the idea of taking the ordinary and making it magical. I also think I need to take Da Geeky 1 from Two Geeks and a Dame on this tour for her birthday or she might disown me!
