July Bookshelf – Yes, We Read In The Summer!

How many books have you read this month? You can be honest? Don’t worry, I have been slacking a bit myself but I wanted to share some of what I will be reading and some of what JustaBXgirl has been reading. I have been trying to make a serious effort to read to her because since she has been reading chapter books on her own, I don’t always take the time to read to her. When I don’t take the time to read to her then she doesn’t want to read independently as much. The other thing is that even though I haven’t read as much as I would have liked, I want her seeing me reading. Children are always watching what we do so much more than what we say. If I say reading is important then it is important that she sees me read.

Beautiful Bellas – I love this book because it is BILINGUAL. The link I’ve added is to the English version because I couldn’t find the bilingual version on Amazon but I truly love seeing the messages in dual language so I suggest looking for this version at your library or local book store. I love the message that this book sends to girls about being who they are and finding the beauty in that.

Where Are You, Puffling? – We fell in love with puffins after visiting Iceland. Getting this book in the mail took us back to that moment. JustaBXgirl got out her Puffin plushie named Lucy to read to. It’s a sweet story that has messages of love and kindness as we follow along as the Puffling’s parents search for it and learn of all the ways their baby has made a difference.

I Am Famous – The little girl in this book is so sassy that she reminds me of JustaBXgirl from page one. We can’t read this story without smiling and talking about how extra she is. She is unapologetic in knowing her worth and I am here for it.

I Like Myself – This was a gift to JustaBXgirl a few years ago and we still love it. It is just the right amount of silly mixed with seriousness and empowerment. The perfect message to send to young people everywhere.

When The World Feels Like A Scary Place – The world is such a scary place right now. We are all having tough conversations and reading books like this make us feel a little less alone. A lot of times adults think that littles don’t get what is happening around them. They know and if we don’t have open and honest conversation they draw their own conclusions. Reading this helps give us ways to start the conversations.

The Montessori Toddler – I’m a believer in the Montessori method. Being in the middle trying to make sense of what school will be having a guide like this is helpful. Yes, JustaBXgirl is older than a toddler but that doesn’t mean that these methods stop working. Some I can take the methodology from them and others I can adapt for her age.

Rental Style – I’m sure that I’m not the only one in the part of quarantine that wants to update my home space. I’m not really going to do any projects right now but looking at the possibilities helps make the time go by!
