We have been having so much fun this summer. We are on the go go go. And that means that when on the train we need to have plenty of books that can keep up with us! We just finished Book Five of Harry Potter. Did you know that we’re Harry Potter heads??? Yup, We won’t start Book Six until school starts however, we won’t be taking a break on books until then. Here’s a peek at what is currently on our reading list.

Benji And The Giant Kite – You might remember Benji from Benji & The 24 Pound Banana Squash which we featured on a previous bookshelf. Benji is back and this time he wants a giant kite. I really like that this book again shows Benji working towards achieving his goal. Too often our children and ourselves are looking for instant gratification. This is a wonderful reminder that the best things in life are worth working for!

The Adventures of Captain Waffello – Toasty’s Revenge – I think this is the book that I’m the most excited about on this month’s list. It was written by an 11-year old boy that was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of five. This book has really fun characters like Captain Waffello and his sidekick, Sir Rup. Hehe, that makes me giggle every time I read it. If you head over to Aiden’s website you can learn more about him and even download the audiobook.

Darci The Drummer Takes Drum Lessons -My daughter loves music. It’s in her blood even if she can’t dance, sing or play an instrument LOL. This book is about a little girl that definitely has rhythm and how she finds her way to let that rhythm free. I also love how she has supportive parents. Sometimes when our littles are making noise we can forget to listen beyond the noise for what’s happening underneath.

Monster Boogie  – We love Laurie Berkner. We were so excited to hear she had a new book out. We weren’t so excited that we had to miss her book signing in NYC. I love that this book gives littles hints to what the words say so that they can help read the story.

Your Second Life Begins When You Realize You Only Have One – The title of this book grabbed me. And then I read what it was about. A woman that seems to have it all but still can’t find joy. I feel like at times we all are this woman! I couldn’t wait to go along on Camille’s journey to joy.

Not Alone – Reflections on Faith and Depression – When I shared with an online friend that I was having anxiety attacks and feeling overwhelmed lately she sent me her signed copy of this book to help me through my struggle. I have not had the chance to open the pages yet but the kind gesture touched me in a way that this book will always be special. I can’t wait to read it through and return it to its owner. I am hoping to be able to somehow return the kindness she showed me.

We are giving away a copy of Darci The Drummer. All you have to do is tell us in the comments what is on your current reading list. We will pick one winner on Friday, August 10th.
