We won’t be able to step foot in Disney for a few months but in the mean time we keep some (okay, a lot) of Disney magic at home, The last few months we have been enjoying the Disney Princess Style Gourmet Kitchen.
We’ve gone through a few play kitchens over the years but this is really our favorite. And I say our favorite because it makes me smile too. As soon as we got the kitchen built, JustaBXgirl said, “it makes me feel like a princess.” I couldn’t agree more. At five years old, pretend play is still a very important part of our routine.
Kitchen sets seem to be that toy, much life dollhouses that have hours of play built right in. They can represent so much more than a place to cook. They open children to view endless possibilities. I know JustaBXgirl has used her kitchen to serve as a bakery and a restaurant. She has customers that come in many forms from baby dolls, barbie dolls, Disney Princesses to her cousins and friends. Sometimes she runs the bakery or restaurant and sometimes the dolls do and she is the customer.
Of course, sometimes the kitchen is simply that, it is a kitchen. In it she has made me countless dinners and soups to make me feel better when I am ill. She has been a stressed out mom trying to get dinner ready while her baby dolls need her attention. She has cooked many the meal to entertain her guests for dinner parties.
JustaBXgirl has spent hours upon hours organizing her kitchen to her liking. Everything in the proper place, according to her. Trust me, I’ve been told off for putting something on the wrong shelf. These might just seem like games to us but these are critical parts of learning. And a great way to see what they have already learned.
And then there’s the fact that this kitchen is simply beautiful. And it is large enough that JustaBXgirl can feel like it is made for her size. One of my favorite things about this kitchen is the storage on it. It can hold so much! The kitchens we had before it were not the best on storage. Kind of reminded me of our real life kitchen storage issues where you have to be creative on where things go. This kitchen has massive amounts of storage which makes both me and JustaBXgirl happy.
Summer is coming to an end which means we will have less time to play pretend with school and all of her extracurricular activities but I am confident that in those moments she does get free play she will continue to spend some of it with her kitchen.
