When I had my baby shower for Amari, I requested all my guests bring a book to start Amari’s book collection.  When Amari’s first birthday rolled around, my request was still the same.  I asked my guests to bring a book… and boy, did they not disappoint.   I received some of the most amazing books that I would be remiss if I didn’t share them with you.

The Dog I love Best – Thank you uncle Suli for this book. In rhyming text, a boy explains why he loves one dog, out of a group of other dogs at an animal shelter.  It has a cute little puppy puppet that is embedded right through the middle of the book.  Amari gets such a kick out of when I wiggle it and make little barking noises.  It’s such a perfect size to throw in his baby bag to take along with us for a ride.

Dance – This book was given to Amari with no name, but as soon as I opened up I knew exactly who it came from.  I immediately texted my very close college fried Ahimsa to say thank you for such a great book! This book is a #1 New York Times bestselling children’s book about a little baby chick who learns how to dance from a friendly band of animals who know all the right moves! Amari loves pulling the pull tabs to make the different animals bounce, shake and bop as they dance to the Hippoppta Hula, Gator Mashed Patater, and more! You can even listen and dance to the song at VanFleetBooks.com. Get your dancing feet ready!

One Love – Deedah couldn’t be with us to celebrate Amari turning the big uno, but the book she sent was still a hit. One love is a book created by Cedella Marley for toddlers and preschoolers to learn about diversity, teamwork, and love.  Adapted from one of Bob Marley’s most beloved songs, One Love brings the joyful spirit and unforgettable lyrics to life for a new generation. Readers will delight in dancing to the beat and feeling the positive groove of change when one girl enlists her community to help transform her neighborhood for the better. It’s a testament to the amazing things that can happen when we all get together with one love in our hearts.

Counting Kisses – I wish I knew who gave Amari this book so that I could thank them, but alas I do not.  I love reading this book and acting it out when I read it.  From 10 kisses on his tiny toes to 1 loving kiss on his tiny forehead.  This is the perfect book for after a bath and right before his bedtime.
