Can you smell the pumpkin spice? Autumn is here and the weather is turning cooler. That gives us even more reason to curl up with a good book. The September Bookshelf will keep your family of bookworms busy.

Wash Day – I cannot begin to describe how loved this book is in our home. HOPS gravitated to it the moment it arrived. She sits in a corner on my couch and reads it to herself. Next, she reads it to JustaBXgirl. Then, she reads it to her babydoll. And finally, she reads it to me. After that, she wants JustaBXgirl and me to read it to her. Wash Day can be a time filled with dread and anxiousness OR it can be a day filled with love and bonding. This book is a great reminder of that, as well as a beautiful story of sisterhood.

Potty Training in 3 Days – HOPS turns three soon and her mom (and I) are ready for her to use the potty like a big girl. This book is going to get us there. I’m making everyone in HOPS life read it so that we can be prepared. I love that this book feels like a conversation. It’s not written to speak down to parents. It feels like going to a friend for parenting advice.

The Nightmare Before Christmas Beyond Halloween Town – I considered keeping this title for a holiday gift guide. It is the perfect gift for a fan. Did you know it is the 30th anniversary of the movie? This book gives us all of the inspiration behind the film and lets us see all the ways that The Nightmare Before Christmas is so much more than a Halloween or Christmas movie. It has a full life and following of its own!

The Wonderful World of Zuri Rose – This is so much more than an alphabet book. It introduces us to a world of flowers literally from A to Z. Zuri Rose takes us on a journey to learn all about the flowers she finds on a Saturday morning in the flower district of NYC with her mom. You know that I am always here for a good hometown book. JustaBXgirl loves the flowers. It is a wonderful read together.

too many Hugs – Consent is an important topic to introduce to children from an early age. This book gives us Theo’s perspective on the hugs he receives throughout the day. We get to see how Theo addresses people not knowing and respecting his boundaries. Helping littles identify and communicate their own boundaries is a gift that every little deserves.

The Adventure Crew Here to grow with you – We recently fell in love with The Adventure Crew when we met them at a recent event. Then we learned they had a board book and it made me love them even more. This group of six is ready to inspire creativity and learning in littles. I look forward to checking out many more adventures with the Crew!
