Playing Tourist at Home – NYC Staycation Idea

I want to thank Desiree, from JELS Mommy’s Fitness Journey for giving us a peek into her summer fun. Her and I were recently talking about how when you live in NYC you kind of take for granted the beauty of the city. Here is her non-sponsored experience acting like a tourist in the city she calls her own.

This summer has been quite a grand adventure for the Kid and I. Most of our adventures have been right here in the great city of New York. From our many trips to the Bronx Zoo to simply just going to different city parks. Being a NYC Mom, my main goal for the Kid is to keep him entertained and educated with our adventures. One of our fun adventures that we have done twice so far was taking a sight seeing tour bus through Manhattan at night. I know native New Yorkers have passed them by and probably even cursed at one for trying to run them over. Thankfully, my sister-in-law, Ellen had been a bit obsessive about a recent game and ended up finding this great Groupon Deal with CitySightseeing NY Gray Line.
The Kid had a ball during the first trip. It was actually quite amazing to experience the City in this way. I am a native New Yorker and I know for a fact that I do not appreciate and enjoy the beauty of our wonderful city. I know the hustle and bustle of NYC . That said, I am so used to getting from point A to Point B and paying no attention the the history of the city and all the wonderful things you can do here. The bus tour was about 2.5 hours. The loop was down 5th Avenue, over the Manhattan Bridge, where you see the glorious architecture of the Brooklyn Bridge, a quick tour of downtown Brooklyn and then back over the bridge to see the West Village and all of 6th Avenue. Honestly, I really did fall back in love with my city as my sister-in-law told me I would. We plan on going again soon. We have already done it twice.  The second time we took my sister and nephew to enjoy the sights and sounds of New York City and it was yet again an AWESOME experience. I highly recommend it for parents looking for something fun and simple for the kids to do that doesn’t require too much walking. They have several tours to choose from but the Groupon was for the Night Loop specifically.

I hope you do this tour and you still fall for New York just like we did.
