Do you attempt something new when the clock strikes midnight? I never have. This year, I will be continuing a new skill that I will admit I have been slacking on. I will commit to play the piano once a week. I’m still not making resolutions but I will use the calendar change as a reset because have I mentioned, I’ve been slacking?
You might remember that I’m working with PianoPiano and have one of their beautiful instruments in my home. When the piano was delivered I just knew that the entire household would be full of Mozarts before Christmas. You see, what had happened was…Seriously, I don’t know what happened. I can admit though that I am not much closer to Mozart status then when I started.
My goal is to be able to easily play at least two songs by spring. And when I say two songs, I really mean one but two sounds loftier than one. I love having the piano at home even if I’m not constantly playing it. Having the piano in our home makes me smile. Walking into the door and seeing it standing there reminds me of the opportunities available. It reminds me that it is never too late to start something.
I started a lot of things in 2018. Some of them I saw all the way through and some I allowed to fall by the wayside. Seeing my PianoPiano rental sitting in my living room reminds me that it is important to know when to push through and when to fall back. The last few weeks of the year were so busy for me I was feeling majorly burned out but couldn’t or wouldn’t slow down. Even while I was pushing through I knew that my piano was waiting for me. Just sitting on the piano bench reminds me that I have work to do. It reminds me that my growth is just as important as guiding the growth of JustBXgirl.
I might only be able to play scales right now but that’s more than I was able to do before my rental arrived. And I will learn my song. So what that JustaBXgirl might be able to play more than I can. I’m used to her being a better version of me.
