Halloween Movie Night Ideas

Halloween Movie Night Ideas

We received some of these for review purposes. As always, all opinions are honest and my own.

For some reason, it seems like Halloween Season came a bit early this year. I think we all just needed something to look forward to after the horror film we have been living in over the past few months. By now, you have probably watched a bunch of your favorite October films so I wanted to share some other options. Some of these are old, some are new and some will be out soon. Either way, take notes, check them out, then come back and tell me what you think of each!

Happy Halloween Scooby-Doo (Original Movie) – Of course, Scooby and Shaggy love Halloween. They get free treats from all of the neighbors. If it wasn’t for that pesky pumpkin patch that got got with toxic ooze! Who else would the team hook up with to solve this doozy than Bill Nye The Science Guy and Elvira, Mistress of the Dark? This is the perfect non-spooky spooky film to watch with the littles. The movie comes out on DVD, Tuesday, October 6th.

Vampires vs the Bronx – JustaBXgirl doesn’t like watching scary movies at night so I watched this without her so I could gauge if I think she can handle it. Let me tell you, I cannot wait to watch it again with her. There is so much to love about this movie. I wish that this movie came out thirty years ago so that I could be hyped as a pre-teen seeing people that looked like me running around places that looked like where I lived being heroes. Sometimes we don’t realize just how much #representationmatters until we see the representation. This movie needs to become a Halloween classic just like movies like Halloweentown and The Monster Squad. The adults featured in this movie are pretty funny as well. And don’t worry adults, it is not all fun and fiction when you think about the scary reality of gentrification in oft-forgotten lower income communities that are normally disproportionately communities of Color.

Hubie Halloween – Adam Sandler, Kevin James, and Keenan Thomas in the same movie?! Who else do you need? How about Julie Bowen, Ray Liotta, Noah Schnapp, Steve Buscemi, and Maya Rudolph? Yup, this movie sounds like I will be peeing my pant laughing. I can’t wait for it to be released on Netflix on October 7th.

A Babysitter’s Guide To Babysitting – The title might sound familiar if you’ve been around here for a while. We reviewed the book a few years ago! This is one that we will be watching during the day. It even has a grown-up Draco Malfoy! This will probably be our movie night pick the weekend of our Zombie Run.

Girl vs Monster – I had planned on seeing Hocus Pocus in full for the first time ever on our last movie night BUT JustaBXgirl had other plans. She chose this movie and loved it. She truly is a Disney princess. She danced along and loved the friendship angle. Also, she completely was in it for the face your fears message.

Roald Dahl’s The Witches – It’s the remake, baby! I can’t wait to see Anne Hathaway as a villain. I know I saw the original but I don’t remember all of it. I do remember enjoying it and I am hoping to share both the original and the new version with JustaBXgirl. It will be out October 22nd on HBO Max.
