Madame Alexander Dolls Centennial Celebration

Madame Alexander Dolls Centennial Celebration

We were invited to attend the event as media. As always, all opinions are honest and my own.

The Madame Alexander Doll Company was founded 100 years ago. We were blessed with the opportunity to attend an exclusive celebration at FAO Schwarz. If you have ever visited the store, you know that any visit feels like a celebration. This visit was even more special. We were able to see a display of Madame Alexander Dolls through the years, meet a Madame Alexander doll designer, and more. I love when history meets toys because it gives an opportunity for a bit of toy school to enter our home school realm.

100 years ago, Madame Beatrice Alexander Behrman founded the Alexander Doll Company. Can you imagine the courage it took a woman to do something like that? She was 28 years old. She didn’t come from a wealthy family. She was a woman inspired by her stepdad’s business. He ran a doll hospital that catered to a wealthy clientele. Madame Beatrice helped in the store as a child and knew she wanted to live like their customers. She also decided somewhere along the way that dolls should not only be beautiful but durable.

It was Madame Alexander’s ingenuity that helped her grow. When she started the company, she hired her sisters and neighbors to sew the dolls. Her vision was clear. Her ideas were new. And she made her place in a male-dominated business.

I’m excited that a trip to the toy store could lead us on a path of discovering more about a remarkable woman. I’ve always known Madame Alexander Dolls to be a renowned brand but until now I didn’t know much more. It was also really special for the centennial celebration to take place at FAO Schwarz because FAO was Madame Alexander’s first client!

There is still more celebrating to be done. You can head over to FAO Schwarz this month and check out the historical doll display, take photos in front of the Madame Alexander window display, and check out the promotion offer of getting a free Madame Alexander stroller with a $75+ purchase. The stroller alone is worth the visit. JustaBXgirl picked one up while we were there and has been zooming her baby dolls around in it. Over the years, she has had many strollers but this one is definitely the best.
