#Places2Eat: Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill – Ronkonkoma

smokey bones restaurant, barbecue, foodie
We were given gift cards to review the restaurant. As always all opinions are honest and solely those of mine and JustaBXgirl.

Most of the time when we head out to Long Island we spend the whole time at family homes and don’t venture out much to surrounding towns.  When I headed to Splish Splash in June we decided to stop and get dinner before driving back to the Bronx in Ronkonkoma at Smokey Bones Bar & Grill.  It was a really long day but after being in the sun having fun all day and house hopping to visit family, my cousins and I decided we deserved some good sit down food.  And good food is what we got right along with really good service.

Joe was our server that day and even though it was after 10p (on a Sunday) by the time we sat down to eat (yes, they’re open late), he treated us with quick and friendly service.  He was shocked when we told him we were driving back to the City after our meal but he made sure we didn’t have to wait for anything, including my to go meal I ordered to have as lunch the day after.

These barbecue sauces so were yummy I asked for some of each to take home!

We enjoyed the meal so much that when I told JustaBXgirl we were heading out for a weekend on Long Island she asked if we could go back to Smokey Bones.  I talked with the cousin we would be visiting and we decided we would have a girls night out there.  You would think that Smokey Bones paid JustaBXgirl to be their spokesgirl because this child made a point to tell everyone that she was going to Smokey Bones for dinner because it is A-MAZING.

yummy food, smokey bones

We went around 8p this time with no reservations and still had no wait time.  I’ve heard that they can get pretty crowded some days so if you’re heading out you might want to call ahead.  Since we weren’t in a rush this time we ordered some wings for appetizers (which I pretty much ate alone).  JustaBXgirl was disappointed that they were out of children’s burgers as that’s what she had the first time but she quickly got over it when I let her order a bacon cheeseburger off of the regular menu.  Don’t you know she ate just about all of it!

smokey bones, brisket, pulled pork, fries, wings

I wanted to try something new but the beef brisket was just so yummy I had to have it twice!  All of my cousins that have gone there with me have gotten something different from me and they all loved their food too so this place isn’t a one dish wonder.  JustaBXgirl’s burger looked so yummy that I think next time I go I will be ordering a burger of my own (I’ll get the brisket to go).

I was really impressed with the prices.  Each time we were able to eat and drink for under $100.  The first time there were three adults and JustaBXgirl and I took home an entree.   The last time we went it as just two adults and JustaBXgirl but we all had entrees and non-alcoholic beverages.  JustaBXgirl is fancy and when we go out to eat she always has to have a Shirley Temple.

Shirley Temple for her and Blackberry Lemonade for me.

Be careful when you pack your to go bags.  It didn’t happen the first time but the second time our bag broke!  Luckily it happened right when we packed it so we were able to get a replacement.  The only downside to Smokey Bones for me is that there isn’t one closer to me than the Ronkonkoma location.  The restaurant was clean, friendly, and yummy.  In JustaBXgirl’s word choice “Smokey Bones is A-MAZING.”  We’re both already planning our next visit.

Updated:  Okay, so Smokey Bones just keeps getting better.  I just got a press release in my inbox about an Instagram contest they are running.  One of us (because if I can get back out there before the contest ends I will be entering) has the chance to win a $3,000 grand prize for eating (and building) a burger!!!
